KARACHI: Rangers released Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders Farooq Sattar and Khawaja Izharul Hassan on Tuesday after overnight detention in the paramilitary custody.
Senior leader Farooq Sattar, who returned to his residence today, said that he will hold an important press conference at 2 pm today where he will share the details from last night with the public. He however declined to comment on yesterday?s events for now.
Farooq Sattar, Khwaja Izhar, Dr Amir Liaquat and some other party workers were nabbed by Rangers from Karachi Press Club yesterday when they were coming to address a press conference following MQM party workers? attack on media houses in Karachi ? an action incited by MQM chief Altaf Hussain?s inflammatory speech during the hunger strike organized by the party at Press Club.
Video footage available with Geo News shows Farooq Sattar asking the Rangers personnel for two minutes to address his workers. A Rangers officer does not spare him the time and takes him away, along with Khawaja Izhar.
According to sources, around 50 MQM workers were detained by law enforcement agencies following yesterday?s violence. The detained leaders included Farooq Sattar, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Arshad Vohra, Khawaja Sohail and Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
Altaf Hussain?s speech to participants in the hunger strike incited party workers to take to the streets yesterday, ransack media houses and vandalize property. At least one person died and eight others were injured during the violent attacks in which around 2,000 party workers participated.
