People on Twitter started using the hashtag #IllWalkWithYou to help Muslims feel safe following Saturday?s shooting in New York City that killed a local imam and his associate near a mosque in Queens.
Tweeple were quick to assure Muslims they shouldn?t live in fear and offered to escort them to mosques through #IllWalkWithYou.
It is unclear whether the act was motivated by hate; nevertheless people started showing their support for Muslims on Twitter.

A similar trend had popped up on Twitter following the 2014 Sydney hostage situation. People had adopted the hashtag #IllRideWithYou to help Muslims living in Australia feel safe.Â
