MQM ends sit-in against workers arrest in Karachi

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday night ended its sit-in against arrest of party activists in Karachi saying the party would soon announce protests.

The law enforcers on Tuesday night raided office of a political party in Karachi's Gulistan e Jauhar area and rounded up five people from there.

MQM said the raid was conducted at its sector office. Party leaders and workers staged a protest sit-in outside Shahrah e Faisal police station, demanding release of arrested activists.

The protest forced closure of a track of Karachi's main thoroughfare leading to Jinnah International Airport from Drigh Road, resulting in formation of long queues of vehicles.

Meanwhile, police also deployed water cannons at the site of the demonstration.

The party, however, ended the sit-in after several hours. MQM leader Kunwar Naveed Jameel said that the Rabita Committee (RC) would soon announce protests against workers' arrest.
