Under Operation Hercules London to witness more armed officers

LONDON: One week after Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan announced the start of Operation Hercules which will see additional firearms officers being deployed in visible roles in the capital, London.

According to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police, Operation Hercules is not only about increasing the number of firearms officers on London's streets but will also see them being used in a range of different ways, all designed primarily to protect the Capital against the terrorism threat. The threat remains at severe, the statement added.

The Metropolitan Police is also working towards recruiting 600 extra firearms officers which will enable the force to deploy more armed response vehicles. 

According to data available with Geo.tv, even after the additional deployment of armed officers, 92-percent of the police in London remains unarmed.
