SHORKOT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performed the groundbreaking of the third section of the Motorway (M-4) Shorkot-Khanewal on Saturday.
The prime minister while addressing the participants of the groundbreaking ceremony said that the route of Faisalabad and Gojra has been completed.
Nawaz lauded his governmentâs efforts to strengthen infrastructure of the country and said that first time in the countryâs history a network of roads was placed in this region.
âThe time will come when G.T. road will link with Motorway at several places,â said Nawaz.
He said that these initiatives did not start from here but from Chinaâs boundary, adding that the network of roads will reach Karachi and Gwadar as well.
Within 17 years no new motorway has been made, he said, adding that none of the previous governments had a vision like this for the country.
The premier also talked about the power shortage in the country and said that three years ago, the problem of loadshedding was at its peak.
âThe way work is being carried out on the loadshedding issue, it is in front of everyone,â he said.
The prime minister said that till 2018, Pakistan will be free from loadshedding.
PM Nawaz also did not spare the opposition in his address and said âserious politics is not done from containers, itâs not a one-day or test match.â
The total cost of the third section of the Motorway  is estimated to be around 22 billion rupees and said to be completed within a span of two years.
The Shorkot-Khanewal section will be completed in two phases. The first phase will be composed of 31 kilometers from Shorkot to Deenpur, and the second phase from Deenpur to Khanewal will be 34 kms long.
For the project, Asian Development and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank had contributed funding through co financing.
