PM addresses public rally in Muzaffarabad following AJK victory

MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reached the Azad Kashmir capital to address a public rally following his landslide win in the elections.

His supporters in AJK were in a celebratory mood after the victory and people donning the party flags welcomed him.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz swept the AJK Legislative Assembly election held on Thursday bagging 31 seats out of a total of 41.

The prime minister is addressing a public rally after over two months. He resumed office 60 days after a cardiac surgery in London.

The last public rally he addressed was in D.I.Khan after which he left the country for an open heart surgery in London.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as front-runner in the polls for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly with 31 seats to its credit, official results suggested.

Official results of 41 seats have been announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The polling process for the 10th general elections ended for the 49 seats of the Legislative Assembly in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The PML-N has so far been ahead of all its rival political parties in Azad Kashmir elections, followed by Pakistan People?s Party which bagged three seats, Muslim Conference which bagged three seats, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with two seats. The Jammu Kashmir Pakistan People?s Party got one seat, and an independent candidate won a seat.

The PTI congratulated PML-N for its win. The PPP however claimed that the elections had been rigged.
