PM Nawaz meets COAS, discusses Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday met Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif, hours before the National Security Council meeting scheduled for today.

The premier discussed the on going violence by Indian security forces in occupied Kashmir in the meeting with the army chief.

During the meeting, matters related to homeland security and regional peace were brought under discussion.

PM Nawaz Sharif is due to preside a National Security Council meeting today. He arrived in the capital city yesterday, after staying away from PM House for almost 60 days on account of his cardiac surgery in London and later in the wake of an infection in his leg following his return to the country.

Today?s meeting would include Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and chiefs of the three armed forces.

Several high profile ministers such as defense minister, interior minister, federal ministers of the treasury, national security adviser, foreign adviser and others would also attend the meeting.

Sources had said that matters related to the National Action Plan, operation Zarb-i-Azb, and Karachi operation would likely be discussed in the NSC meeting.

External matters such as the worsening security situation in the occupied Kashmir since the death of a young rebel leader, and the border skirmishes with Afghanistan in the last month would also be discussed today. The meeting would focus on formulating a national policy, sources said.
